Hi, my name is Keenbie
I am a mother of 3 lovely children. Life had been beautiful with the 3 of them in my life. But in 2014, we noticed that our twin boys were not developing on par with their peers. We started the discovery journey to find out how we can help them. In 2015, my twin boys were diagnosed to be on the Autism Spectrum.
The diagnosis hit us hard, even when the suspicions had been there since we were first referred to the Children Development Centre for further diagnosis in 2014. Nevertheless, we had to make new arrangements to cater for our boys, and we sprang into actions.
Shortly after the diagnosis, I had to make the difficult decision to put my career on hold, so as to pay more attention to assisting with the development of my boys. I started on reading up, and learning more on what are the different methods that can help spur the developments of our boys. I started creating my own resources, using materials which can be readily available in stores.
During the journey where I tried many different approaches to work with my boys, I discovered that photo flash cards tend to sustain the attention of my boys better. I then made improvision, and created “Adapted Books” which solicits more interactions form the boys while doing activities with the photo flash cards.
I understood no one can help them better than their own mother. My sons enjoyed working with photo flash cards as they were simple and clear. I used clear real-life pictures to help them understand better what they are learning about. Each resource was adapted to the children’s minds, making the world a little more available to them…
